Like all notebooks Pavilion More recently, the Pavilion dv7-3063cl HP ($ 799.99 USD) offers a design visually stunning, and this particular model also comes equipped with Windows 7, features an HD screen 17.3-inch equally sensational . However, this is a cheap machine and as such, comes with a low CPU cost and lacks a few features found on more expensive models such as Blu-ray.
Design
With its touch Espresso Black Imprint, the pattern of circles of the cap and polished chrome trim, the insurance dv7-3063cl draw the attention of others, but you might want to have a rag handy as too attracts spots fingerprints. The system weighs 3.18 kg, a figure that is not unreasonable for a replacement for desktop PC but not something you want to carry around all day.
Under the lid there is a 17.3-inch screen with LED backlight 1600 × 900 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Although the screen can not display 1080p HD video, no problems with 720p. The colors are striking and plays videos smoothly, and the performance of the wide viewing angle panel means you can watch videos with friends without noticing changes in color or a darkened screen. The trouble is that this model does not come with Blu-ray and TV tuner, so the HD content will come from another source. However, if you get a multiformat DVD burner, and there is a webcam integrated into the bezel above the screen.
Features
The keyboard dv7-3063cl shows the same finish this at the top. The mouse buttons and touchpad are polished chrome, which looks good until you use them, at which are covered with fingerprints. In addition, the chrome finish does not offer the best surface to control the cursor as it tends to add too much drag, would have been better slightly textured surface. Also the mouse buttons are a bit scandalous. However, the full-size keyboard is spacious and comfortable and has a numeric keypad. Above the keyboard are media player controls, a volume slider and a Wi-Fi switch, all of which is touch sensitive.
The integrated Altec Lansing speakers deliver good high and middle tones and achieve a reasonably high but the bass response is not very deep. There are two headphone jacks and a microphone mounted on the front of the unit, and you get a great remote control that can be stored in the ExpressCard slot.
The dv7-3063cl connections comes with video HDMI and VGA and four USB ports, a card reader multiformat connector, Ethernet and modem, an HP Expansion Port 3, and the ExpressCard slot mentioned above. The 500 GB hard drive provides plenty of storage but comes with the typical bloatware HP computers. Also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi draft-n.
Performance
Thanks to its cheap CPU AMD Turion II M520 dual core 2.3 GHz and 4 GB of memory, the dv7-3063cl served as a cheap system. He could not run the performance test from FutureMark PCMark Vantage. His result in the Cinebench R10 of 4746 was a bit Menrad than the Studio 1737 (s1737-USE0145) from Dell, another big-screen cheap system, and was more than 1000 points slower than the HDX18t HP multimedia computer current Editors' Choice. It completed the Windows Media Encoder test in 1 min 9 s, which was slightly faster than the Dell 1737 and the Pavilion dv7-2173cl, which is part of Intel, but it was still slower than the HP HDX18t . Integrated graphics (ATI Mobility Radeon 4200) are suitable to play a very slight low-resolution, requires a more powerful GPU for graphic demanding 3D games.
The lithium-ion battery 8-cell lasted 3 h 45 min in our MobileMark 2007 test, which is not bad for a system that big.
The Pavilion dv7-3063cl HP system is not substitute for PC desktop market higher capacity and lacks the graphics of sufficient quality to be taken seriously as a computer for video editing or gaming. However, it still has a nice big screen, and has sufficient capacity to handle most multimedia projects. But if you are looking for good performance on a PC desktop replacement, then the best bet is the HP HDX18t, Editors' Choice. -John R. Delaney
