Samsung wins 25% less, despite the large sales of smartphones
Despite the success of sales of its smartphones, Samsung Electronics has seen a 25% decline in profits in the second quarter of 2011 over the same period last year. The company's net profit was 2,328 million euros compared to 2.839 million euros in the same quarter of 2010.
Collected as Le Monde , the manufacturer of S Galaxy has suffered decline in the demand for televisions, flat screens, computers and semiconductors. The South Korean company has been affected by the same trend as other companies have suffered from consumer electronics such as Sony or Panasonic.
The division of South Korean telecom giant's operating profit doubled from the prior year thanks to increased sales 45% year on year. Sales of mobile phones , Samsung is the world's second largest manufacturer behind Nokia , which were pushed up the benefit of the group, "especially the section on smartphones. The company's flagship phone, the Galaxy S II has surpassed five million units sold since its launch in April.
A benefit in this sector also contributed an average increase of prices of mobile phones more than 10% over the same period last year.
For the third quarter of the year, Samsung expects increased sales of personal computers that drive demand for DRAM, as well as increased sales of television screens to "smart" and 3D.
